Amazing how many color variations have been developed over the years from the Zebra Finch. While on of the easier species to keep and breed, no other species has proved to be so varied in the many varieties of color variations that can be derived from this beautiful little bird.
Remember those Crested Fawn Self's from the previous photo page? Well now we have two of those males paired up with a couple of hens also from the Atlanta Bird Show. This first one is the dominant male of the four, and has the most impressive crest. He is paired with this crested hen.
They wasted no time setting up house, and settling in. Next event..Crested babies!
This is the other hen. These two have also already become "buddies."
Also on the shopping list was a hen for the Silver Isabelle Zebra male. Well, here is where I didn't do so well. It seemed easy enough to get either a Florida Fancy, or a Phao hen, right? Yea, right! Oh, well we will see what this pairing brings, and get the right hen at the next bird show.
She is not as white as she appears. This little gal wouldn't sit still for a second. I can't tell you how many pictures I snapped before I gave up. Even this one is a little blurred. The head is actually a little grayer than the photo, and the back and belly are more tan. She is pretty none the less.
Last, but certainly not least, is a new Shaft Tail hen. Having lost the original hen from this proven pair was sad. Hopefully these two will bond and have some babies soon. What a pretty bird! Boy is she chunky. She is almost half again wider in the breast than the male. I tried and tried to get a shot of the two of them together, but.... I'll try again later. You can see the male on the previous bird photo page.
